Closing your BIR registration (COR)

If you stop practicing — retiring, going purely employed, or leaving the country — you should formally close your BIR registration rather than just stop filing. Closing it (via BIR Form 1905) stops returns from being expected and prevents open cases and penalties from piling up on a dormant registration.

Why close it properly

An open registration keeps expecting returns. Stop filing without closing and the BIR records the missing returns as open cases, with penalties — even if you earned nothing.

What's involved

You apply to close or cancel your registration, settle any open returns and dues, and surrender what the BIR requires. Once processed, your registration is closed and returns are no longer expected.

The process follows current BIR rules and can vary by RDO. Medtax handles the closing and any open cases; confirm specifics with your account manager.
